One person can make all the difference in the world. One of our favorite quotes is from Margaret Meade, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world: indeed it's the only thing that ever has! “
The California Wilderness Coalition has been incredibly successful at protecting our State’s wild places. We have led the charge in designating over 13 million acres of wilderness throughout the state, such as the Trinity Alps Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, Magic Mountain Wilderness, King Range Wilderness and Death Valley Wilderness.

Donation FAQs:
With two years of funding, 1.6 million dollars, the CWC will designate over 2.4 million acres in Northern San Diego County, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties and the California Desert.
With $250,000, we are able to coordinate a two year program, resulting in the grassroots support of 1000 National, state and local agencies, chambers of commerce, elected officials, businesses, religious affiliates, nonprofits and individuals which lead to the introduction of two wilderness bills.
For every $80,000 donated, we are able to protect 200,000 acres of roadless areas in the Modoc and Lassen National Forest as well as the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
With $15,000 we are able to employ two summer interns and one senior staff person for six months, resulting the restoration of 500 miles of wilderness, the erection of 20 off-road vehicle posts, the clean-up of 2 camp sites and the stewardship of three wilderness areas; The Yuki, Sanhedrin and Snow Mountain Wilderness.
With each $1,000 member, in one week a senior staff person is able to conduct 5 conference calls with senior legislative staff , coordinate 4 local coalition partner meetings, administer 3 wilderness field surveys, provide 2 city council meeting hearing presentations and lead 1 outing with a federal agency.
Each $100 membership allows for the protection of 5,000 acres of wilderness designation in the California Desert, protecting such areas as Joshua Tree and the Mojave National Trails.
For every $50 member we are able to increase our membership and political clout by 23 members.
We want to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to discover places like Milpitas Wash near the Colorado River—home to ancient Palo Verde trees, the endangered gila woodpecker and the largest Sonoran Woodland in North America;.or to find a desert tortoise among the wildflowers in the Castle Mountains, to watch bighorn sheep scramble up rocky hillsides in the Avawatz Mountains, or to hike along the sparkling Deep Creek river with stunning views across the Mojave.
